About us
In 2023, the town of Johnson experienced a five-hundred year flood that destroyed businesses and residences. For a time we were a food desert and over 19 village properties have been marked for demolition by FEMA.
Before the floods there was Covid. The pandemic, which decimated higher education across the country as in-person learning gave way to remote instruction, hit the college hard. Student population declined by almost 90% and the effect on local economy was hard to watch.

However, our town has standout attributes that no other town in Vermont has.
We are at the intersection of the Long Trail and the Rail Trail which bring in hikers and bikers, snowmobilers and tourists.
We are the intersection of the Gihon and Lamoille, that have great fly fishing, canoeing, kayaking and swiming.
We have the college's multi-million dollar exercise facility, plus disc golf, tennis, pickelball and cross country trails.
We have the Vermont Studio Center, which brings in visiting artists to study from all over the world every month.
We have a summer music series.
We are in the middle of 3 large ski resorts.
And we have standout people who volunteer relentlessly, help those in need, and create and maintain projects that foster community and invite visitors.
All of this nestled into one of the prettiest valleys in the state.

Discover Johson was created to tell our towns' story, to foster community development, recreation, wellness and agricultural tourism and to help reverse the effects of events that were beyond our control.

Our town will not slow down.
